“No, of course not,” Jane agreed thoughtfully, although of course it hadn’t occurred to her before this very instant.  When Katrina was older?  If Jane had been a new mother she would have found it difficult to realize that she had a child at all, let alone that it would one day grow up!  Meg was already speaking like a parent, and it was intriguing to hear.  Jane smiled.  ”Then Hercules is getting used to things, as well?” she asked, grinning.  ”That’s wonderful!  I mean, I’d imagine it’s generally harder for the men because they’re not accustomed to carrying the baby around for nine months!”

“Wonderboy can’t change a toga to save his life.” Meg sighed affectionately. “And he wasn’t even there for me to break his hand when I was in labor! I feel cheated!” She was joking of course. But there was a part of her that was a bit spiteful. Only a bit.

Jane laughed.  ”Dear Lord.  If it was as bad as all that…I can’t imagine.  If I can walk at all, when I give birth - if I ever do - you can bet I’ll try and break more than John’s hand!”  But her words were affectionate, too.  Jane sighed, contentedly, and squeezed Meg’s hand.  ”I’m so glad everything is going all right.”

Meg smiled crookedly. “So am I, believe it or not!” She chuckled and pulled Jane into another hug. “Thanks, Jane. So. Mrs. Smith. How’s the hubby? Newlywed phase still activated?”

“Yes, and I rather think it’s not a phase after all,” Jane giggled, smiling as she thought of John.  ”I wouldn’t be surprised, but very pleased, if John and I continued like this always.”

Meg smiled softly at Jane. “I’m so glad for you, Janie! You deserve it! But remember, anytime you need to get away from the testosterone, you come see me.” She winked at her. “You, Helga, Tiana, and I need to have a sleepover sometime soon!” She checked her sundial quickly and sighed regretfully. “However, now I must return to my child and husband! We’ll talk tomorrow, yeah? You should come over and see Katy.”

Meg chuckled. “Yes. I firmly believe that. You should come by! Herc misses you too. Or, he misses not having to hear me whine about missing you.” She looked sheepish. She really was reliant on her friends, especially Helga and Jane.

“I will, I’ve actually been planning on it but…” She trailed off. Meg was her best friend, that she knew. But did she really need to tell her about what had happened? Deciding on keeping it to herself, the blonde simply smiled, “But yes, I will stop by as soon as I can!”

Meg was perplexed and suspicious about Helga’s very sudden switch of sentences but knew that if Helga wanted to talk about it, she’d tell Meg in due time. So she smiled. “You, Jane, and Tiana. We can have a sleepover. I can kick Herc out, and maybe send Katy to the in-laws. I miss being 16…” She trailed off in faux-wistfullness and winked at Helga.

The blonde gave a delicate snort and shook her head, “16 was a long time ago for me, I barely remember it.” She scrunched up her nose slightly, but chuckled. “And as for the sleepover idea, I am all for it. Just let me know!”

“So far away for us all…” Meg sighed again playfully. “Yes, I will make time and we shall have a sleepover! I am determined!” She looked at her (suddenly appearing) sandial and tilted her head regretfully. “But, I have to get back to Katy and Herc. It’s almost bedtime and, of course!, she needs to be fed.” Meg gave Helga a withering look before hugging her tightly, not really wanting to go back to responsibility.

“Meg!” Jane flung her arms around her friend.  ”How are you?  How is Hercules, and little Katrina?”

“Jane!” Meg hugged her friend back tightly with a wide grin breaking her face. “I’m okay, tired, but still glowing. He’s watching her right now. She’s six weeks, and I can’t believe I grew her, she’s so big.”

“That big?” chuckled Jane.  She hadn’t realized babies grew so fast.  ”Has it really been six weeks already?  No wonder you’re tired!  But it’s good that you’re also happy.  What is it like?” she asked curiously.  ”I mean I suppose it was one thing when she was inside of you, but now…?”

Meg sighed. “Well, in a way it’s more frightening now. Before, I mean, she was with me alwaysand I was protecting her automatically. It was easier. But now that she can actually be somewhere without me, it’s scary. I trust Herc, with everything. But my daughter, it’s just so much harder to be away from her. But if I don’t start now, little by little, she’ll hate me for smothering her when she’s older. And I won’t risk that.”

“Meg!” Helga ran up to her best friend, whom she hadn’t seen in weeks. Wrapping her arms around the woman, the blonde smiled happily, “Where have you been hiding hmm?”

Meg laughed and hugged Helga back tightly. “Hels! Hi! How are you? I’ve just, you know, fallen off the edge of the Earth. S’all good. Nah, I’ve been with Katrina. This parenting thing takes a lot of time and attention. She’s about, oh, 6 weeks now?”

Helga beamed. Seeing her best friend again had really lifted her spirits after a rough couple of weeks. Linking an arm with Megs, she began walking, “And how is the little one doing? Still as gorgeous as ever?”

Meg clasped her hands in front of her with one arm through Helga’s as they pushed on. “She’s absolutely perfect, of course. Really, really, really doesn’t like baths, but I leave that to Herc while I supervise. That’s about the only thing he’s good for at this point. Wonderboy can’t change a toga to save his life. And he doesn’t exactly qualify for breastfeeding.” Ignited by the word ‘breastfeeding’, Meg became indignant. “You know, I always wondered why we had these things,” She unclasped a hand and gestured to her chest looking incredulously at Helga. “Now I know, and I don’t want them. They hurt and it’s really awkward when we’re in public and Katy gets hungry. If you ever do decide for kids, Hels, don’t breastfeed.

The blonde cringed slightly at the mention of breastfeeding, “Oh I can imagine… You poor thing. Though, it will all be worth it in the grand scheme of things, right?”

Meg chuckled. “Yes. I firmly believe that. You should come by! Herc misses you too. Or, he misses not having to hear me whine about missing you.” She looked sheepish. She really was reliant on her friends, especially Helga and Jane.
